HEALTHCARE FOR THE MARGINALISED
We often hear about poor people being denied treatment due to lack of money. Majority of the Indians don’t have access of quality healthcare. Those who can pay get the quality treatment, while those who can’t are denied. Vellore, Tamil Nadu-based Christian Medical College has done exemplary work in ensuring good healthcare facilities for needy people. The College provides concessionary and free treatment to needy people. Poor patients get free consultation, concession against inpatient and outpatient bills, free drugs and meals. It has created and Emergency Grant Fund that provides grants of upto Rs. 1 lakh for patients from anywhere in the country needing expensive treatment including, operations, ICU care and Radiotherapy. Doctors at the College are even more helpful to a patient who can’t afford to pay.
