RURAL EMPLOYMENT TRAINING, COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT & WOMEN EMPOWERMENT
Call it a Corporate Social Responsibility or an effort towards financial inclusion, Canara Bank, through its initiatives in employment training, skill development, women empowerment and community development has been pursuing the cause for years now. The bank has set up 27 RSETIs in 7 states, targeting Self Help Groups from BPL; trained over 2 lakh youth, 73 per cent of which have been self-employed. A society under Canara runs a 100-bed hospital in Bengaluru – a feat unheard of in the banking sector. The bank has embarked upon providing flouride free drinking water to 217 villages in Kolar and Chikkaballapura Districts at a cost of Rs. 17 crore. Out of 1,600 candidates trained at Artisan Institute more than 1,450 have settled. Cumulatively, the share of SC/ST and women candidates trained is 29 and 73 per cent respectively.
