In an effort to develop and implement a model tele psychiatry application to deliver mental healthcare to the underserved population of remote areas, the PGIMER, Chandigarh envisaged to educate and empower the physicians to identify and treat mental disorders. This resulted in linked computerised decision support system for diagnosis and management of common psychiatric disorders in adults, children and adolescents. More than 2,600 patients have been assessed at the nodal site at PGIMER and 1,200 at there three peripheral sites - Uttrakhand, J&K and Himachal Pradesh. This is expected to bridge the gap between urban areas with a high concentration of psychiatrists and rural areas in dire need of specialists.
