The Department of Road Transport and Highways (DoRTH) has about 1000 Regional Transport Offices (RTO) spread across the country. Establishing State Register and a National Register by the process of Data Integration is the NIC’s solution to the exploding requirements for information from disparate, heterogeneous systems to make sound decisions and comply with the Central Motor Vehicles Act throughout the country. This has made the services of issuance of driving license and vehicle registration to the citizens simpler, faster and more transparent.

Computerization of RRBs:
Punjab National Bank
The Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) were formed with the objective of rural credit delivery and uplifting of rural economy with lesser operational costs and better control mechanism. RRBs have specific needs of Subsidy & Subvention handling. In order to meet the RBI directives, PNB has undertaken the ambitious plan of implementing 100% CBS in all its 6 sponsored RRBs having approximately 1450 branches. The existing PNB’s Data Centre setup and other IT resources viz. Network setup, Information Security System including the skilled and experience manpower has been extended to the RRBs. |

Property Registration :
Gurgaon
It is a project that aims to make property registration process transparent, accountable and efficient. The property registration system is a computerized system that has been developed with the objective of providing single window service to the citizens. The administration has gone a step further in ensuring same day delivery of property documents, transparency in transactions leading to removal of discretion of the Sub-Registrars while entertaining documents and elimination of middlemen from the system. The administration has also enrolled property consultants and dealers based on their track record and closely monitors their activities. The citizens can now deal with the administration in a friendlier environment. |

ACES :
Central Board of Excise
and Customs
Automation of Central Excise and Service Tax (ACES) aims at improving taxpayer services, transparency, accountability and efficiency in the indirect tax administration in India. This application has automated all major processes in Central Excise and Service Tax through a web-based and workflow-based system and has transformed the way over 18 lakh indirect taxpayers conduct their business with the department of Central Excise and Service Tax. ACES was the result of a joint exercise, undertaken with the initial assistance from Canada Customs and Revenue Agency, for re-engineering the business processes of Central Excise & Service Tax.

Kaushaly Vardhan Kendras (KVKs) in Gujarat emphasise on skill evelopment in various sectors especially for the less educated and poor. Keeping in mind that the total requirement of skilled workforce by 2022 will be 500 million, KVKs provide the skill level and educational attainment to the work force, which further determines their productivity.

Janmitra Samadhan Kendra :Gwalior
Janmitra Samadhan Kendra uses biometric solutions to ensure the regular presence of field functionaries in the field. At the same time 72 services of 13 different departments are being delivered in a time bound and citizen friendly manner. This is being implemented through 47 Janmitra Samadhan Kendras in the district Gwalior. At these centers decentralized MIS entry of NREGS is also being done for the first time in the state, ensuring timely, regular and efficient availability of basic G2C services through field functionaries in vital social sectors and Bringing administration closer to the citizens, i.e., improving access by placing the governmental interface as close to the citizens as possible.

Tax Management System :
Kanpur Municipal Corporation
The system has resulted in enhancing the property based tax revenues by three times by providing for transparency in governance, reduction in delays in government processing of grievances, online tax payment and status verification facility that removes intermediary agents facilitating the same, better revenues for investments into civic facilities by creation of a GIS based spatial property database, conducting a property level survey for every property unit, development of Informative and Interactive web GIS system for online property tax calculation and payment and development of desktop application for property database repository management.

The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation deals with bringing all internal operational activities of each individual department on e-Governance platform. It interlinks all the existing services and department for efficient information sharing and control and delivers services online to its citizens like Property & Water Revenue Management, e-Procurement, Building Permission Management, Dashboard for Works Management, Grievances Management which has helped develop an integrated e-Governance Program resulting in improved transparency, efficiency and citizen centric governance. |

Plan Plus :
National Informatics Centre

Plan Plus was developed in response to redress the regional imbalances in development in 250 identified districts. The programme is aimed to bring about development in these districts through a major shift in planning from a
top-down approach to planning to participative plans prepared from grassroots level upwards. Plans are prepared for each scheme separately resulting in lack of convergence of funds and sectoral integration. |

The focus of the programme is on actual, demonstrable performance by distribution companies in terms of sustained loss reduction. Establishment of reliable and automated systems for sustained collection of accurate base line data, and the adoption of information technology tools in the areas of energy accounting are necessary pre-conditions for the sanction of a project. This is to enable objective evaluation of the performance of utilities before and after implementation of the programme, and enforce internal accountability leading to better performance.

E-Shakti : Central Bank of India

The e-Shakti project to aimed at bridging the rural-urban digital divide. The beneficiaries are issued biometric contactless smart card ‘e-Shakti’ which contains digital photograph, fingerprints and a unique registration number through which the beneficiaries are able to withdraw their wages through Business Correspondent channel. Brick and mortar branches have been replaced by Customer Service Points carrying a portable handheld device, which acts as a bank branch. Fingerprinting matching technique is being used to help people who cannot sign or remember PIN code for authentication.
